USA Cycling Madison Camp wraps-up in California

USA Cycling is happy to announce the success of its Madison Clinic which marked the official beginning of its U23 Madison Program. The instructional camp took place at the ADT Event Center Velodrome, Oct 7-9 with seventeen individuals participating in both classroom and riding sessions. The camp was designed as an opportunity to scout and educate riders interested in inclusion in the U23 program, but was open to all riders 17 years and older from any category.

USA Cycling Cyclo-Cross National Calendar Standings: Oct. 27

The 18th and 19th races on the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Calendar took place Oct. 25 and 26 in Louisville, Ky. In the first of two USGP of Cyclo-cross Derby City Cups, Ryan Trebon emerged victorious in the pro men’s contest, while Katerina Nash earned the pro women’s win. In the second day of category-two competition in Kentucky, Timothy Johnson and Georgia Gould earned the pro victories.

Fort Lewis and Appy State take home Collegiate Mountain Bike Titles

Fort Lewis College narrowly surpassed host Lees-McRae College to win the Division I team omnium competition at the 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. Even fewer points separated Division II champions Appalachian State University and second-place Colorado School of Mines. The top individual scorers in both endurance and gravity events were also awarded individual omnium crowns following Sundayandrsquo;s dual slalom contests.

Omnium contests tight heading into final race of Collegiate MTB

After strong performances in Saturdayandrsquo;s short track and downhill contests, only a pair of points separate Division I leaders Lees-McRae and Fort Lewis College in the team omnium competition heading into the final race of the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. The Division II field displayed an evenly disbursed depth of talent with six schools in contention for the omnium national title before Sundayandrsquo;s dual slalom competition.

National Talent Identification Camp wraps up in Colorado Springs

As part of its overall junior development efforts, USA Cycling recently invited 34 road and mountain bike athletes to its annual National Talent Identification Camp at the Olympic Training Center. At the five-day camp Oct. 9-13, athlete participated in a variety of instructional activities and exercises designed to assess and track fitness levels, as well as educate them on several key elements of becoming successful cyclists like nutrition, training, anti-doping and various skills clinics among others.

2008-09 BMX Continental Calendar revealed, ‘09 nationals to Desoto

USA Cycling announced today dates and locations for the eight domestic events slated to appear on the 2008-09 UCI BMX North American Continental Calendar, as well as the 2009 USA Cycling BMX National Championships. For the first time, Continental Calendar events will be contested at ABA affiliated tracks across the U.S. The ABA will also host the American-only national championships, which return to Desoto, Texas and are bookended by two UCI international races the weekend of March 20.

USA Cycling News Update: Oct. 22

Over the past two weeks in American cycling the USA Cycling Development Foundation announced a new memorial scholarship fund, USA Cycling’s Director of Endurance Programs Jim Miller was awarded with the Order of Ikkos medallion by the U.S. Olympic Committee, the 2009 National Racing Calendar was announced, a promoters summit for both NRC and mountain bike race promoters was set for Nov. 14-16, the UCI Masters Track World Championships went off in Australia with the U.S. bringing home 18 medals, the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Calendar began, collegiate mountain bikers began heading south to compete for a national title and more.

Hopes for a full and speedy recovery to Dr. Ed Farrar

USA Cycling would like to wish Dr. Ed Farrar a speedy recovery following a collision on Wednesday when he was hit head-on by a car while cycling in his hometown of Wenatchee, Wash. Farrar is the father of professional cyclist and USA Cycling National Development Team alumnus Tyler Farrar. According to a hospital spokeswoman, Dr. Farrar is listed in serious condition following surgery to repair a spinal injury suffered in the crash. USA Cycling extends its warmest wishes to the entire Farrar family, their friends and the Wenatchee cycling community and hopes for a full and fast recovery.

USA Cycling’s Jim Miller inducted into the Order of Ikkos

USA Cycling Director of Endurance Programs Jim Miller was awarded with the Order of Ikkos medallion by the U.S. Olympic Committee for his role at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Presented to the personal coach of U.S. Olympic medalists, the medallion was given to Miller on the opening day of the 2008 USA Cycling Coaching Summit in Colorado Springs. Miller guided Kristin Armstrong to a gold medal in the individual time trial in Beijing - the culmination of a six-year relationship that’s also yielded a world title and three world championship medals.

2009 National Racing Calendar announced

Featuring 34 events and more than $1.3 million in overall prize payouts, the 2009 National Racing Calendar (NRC) was announced today by USA Cycling. The NRC enters its 13th season as the nation’s premier Pro-Am men’s and women’s road cycling circuit and will visit 21 states from February through September as it highlights the United States’ best domestic teams and athletes. The 2009 NRC opens in February with the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Stage race and ends with the Priority Health Grand Cycling Classic in Michigan in September. Next year, the calendar also features three UCI-sanctioned women’s races.
