2009-10 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross Nationals awarded to Bend, Oregon

The 2009-10 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships have been awarded to the city of Bend, Ore., the national governing body announced today. The USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships were last held in the Pacific Northwest when Portland hosted the 2003 and 2004 editions. Since then, the annual event has been held in Providence, R.I. (2005-06) and Kansas City, Kan. (2007-08). With scheduled dates of Dec. 10-13 in 2009 and Dec. 9-12 in 2010, the two-year commitment returns the national championships to one of the most popular hotbeds of cyclo-cross racing in North America.

Elite women, U23 and junior men named to 09 CX World Champs squad

USA Cycling has announced the first round of nominations to the United States National Team for the 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide, Netherlands, Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Five athletes were named to each of the elite womenandrsquo;s, U23 menandrsquo;s and junior menandrsquo;s squads based on competitive performances over the course of the last year. Katie Compton, Georgia Gould, Rachel Lloyd, Laura Van Gilder and Sue Butler will represent the U.S. in the elite women’s race.

USA Cycling awards four collegiate cycling scholarships

USA Cycling has recognized four outstanding student-athletes, two as recipients of the annual John Stenner Collegiate Cycling Scholarship and two as winners of the new Joshua Kuck Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kimberly Turner of Seattle Pacific University and Kyle Englund-Krieger of the United States Naval Academy were awarded the Stenner Scholarship, while Fort Lewis Collegeandrsquo;s Teal Stetson-Lee and Jeffrey Salvitti of Bucknell University earned the Kuck Memorial Scholarship.

Compton and Gould take gold and bronze at Nommay World Cup

Recently crowned USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Champion, Katie Compton earned the victory in the sixth UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup of the 2008-2009 season on Saturday in Nommay, France. Overall, three American women finished inside the top 10 with Georgia Gould also grabbing a podium spot in third while Rachel Lloyd crossed the line in eighth. The seventh round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup series will take place Dec. 26 in Belgium.

2008 Clubs of the Year announced

USA Cycling has announced the recipients of its annual Club of the Year awards. Ten USA Cycling-sanctioned clubs received recognition for outstanding programs throughout the 2008 season and will receive complimentary registration fees for the 2009 racing season. Of USA Cyclingandrsquo;s 2,216 member clubs, approximately 76 applied for consideration in 10 separate categories. Three primary clubs were recognized based on membership size, while seven additional clubs were awarded with the Club of the Year designation based on specific categories andndash; mountain bike, collegiate, track, new club, womenandrsquo;s, masterandrsquo;s, and junior/high school.

USA Cycling News Update: Dec. 17

Over the last two weeks in American cycling USA Cycling announced the dates and locations of the majority of its 2009 national championships, the 13 American squads that will compete as UCI Continental teams in 2009 were announced, plans for the new USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-Air or ProXCT were unveiled, the third UCI Track World Cup went off in Cali, Columbia, the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Calendar wrapped with the national championships in Kansas City and much more….

Trebon and Gould wrap-up Cyclo-cross National Calendar titles

Ryan Trebon and Georgia Gould earned the overall USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Calendar titles following the final calendar event on Dec. 14. Jeremy Powers, Tim Johnson, Jamey Driscoll and Todd Wells rounded out the top-five on the men’s side in the season-long standings, while Laura Van Gilder, Rachel Lloyd, Katie Compton and Maureen Bruno-Roy finished two through four for the women.

Trebon and Compton earn elite Stars-and-Stripes at ‘Cross Nationals

The final day of the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships was highlighted by the powerful performance put on by Ryan Trebon on his way to the elite menandrsquo;s national title. There were no surprises in the elite womenandrsquo;s race as Katie Compton rode to her fifth consecutive cyclo-cross national championship despite a talented field. A pair of North Carolina schools will take collegiate cyclo-cross team titles back to the Southeast, Lees-McRae College in division I and Appalachian State in division II.

U23 and master men’s contests highlight day three of Cross Nats

Six more national titles were awarded on the third day of competition at the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships. After Nick Weighall secured his nomination to the U23 world championship squad, high winds dried out the climbing course at Tiffany Springs Park, making for some fast and furious masters racing. Following the collegiate title races, this year’s event will conclude on Sunday afternoon as the elite men and women vie for a nomination to the world championship team.

2009 National Championship dates and locations announced

USA Cycling announced today dates and locations for the majority of its 2009 National Championship events. Next year, a total of 17 events will provide amateur and professional cyclists with an opportunity to claim a coveted Stars-and-Stripes national champion’s jersey across all five disciplines of competitive cycling - road, track, mountain bike, BMX and cyclo-cross. Overall, more than 480 titles will be awarded to athletes in the junior, U23, collegiate, masters, elite and professional ranks.
