USA Cycling announced today the addition of Jonathan Page to the U.S. National Team roster for next weekendandrsquo;s UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships. USA Cycling originally denied Pageandrsquo;s initial petition to the world championship team, citing his ineligible status stemming from an open anti-doping investigation at the time of the teamandrsquo;s selection on Jan. 14. But after those responsible for adjudicating the case cleared Page of any wrongdoing, it was announced today that Page would represent the U.S. in the Netherlands as a member of the elite menandrsquo;s roster on Feb. 1.

Two years after the most successful day in U.S. cyclo-cross history, Katie Compton is looking to accomplish what only one other American has managed to do in the 58-year history of the world championships - win a gold medal. Compton recently finished third overall in the 2008-09 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup standings with three victories to her credit. Also ranked third in the overall world rankings, the 2007 silver medalist leads a formidable U.S. squad with medal aspirations in this weekend’s 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.
Following the success of its various junior and U23 programs across other disciplines of competitive cycling, USA Cycling is expanding its efforts to develop Americaandrsquo;s extensive pipeline of Bicycle Motocross (BMX) athletes. With a focus on the future, the national governing body announced today plans to roll out a national BMX junior development program in 2009. The first initiative of the program is a testing and instructional camp set for Feb. 1-6 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. andndash; home of the only permanent Supercross-style BMX facility in North America.

American athletes brought home three medals from the 2009 UCI World Masters Cyclo-cross Championships last weekend, claiming one world title and two silver medals. Katherine Sarvary earned the gold medal in the women’s pre-1960 class, while compatriot Lillian Pfluke claimed silver in the same category. Adding to the U.S. medal count was Katrina Baumsteiger, who captured her fourth consecutive silver medal after also placing second in 2006, ‘07 and ‘08. The masters world championships take place one week before the elite event, scheduled for Jan. 31 - Feb. 1 in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.

The first U.S.-based UCI-sanctioned BMX competition of the 2009 calendar year is rapidly approaching as the BMX community is gearing up for the ABA Sooner Nationals in suburban Oklahoma City on Jan. 24. Held in nearby Guthrie, the event will welcome elite and amateur riders with four UCI categories featured - junior men, junior women, elite men and elite women. Participants in the UCI categories are reminded that a UCI International BMX license is required to compete.

USA Cycling has announced that the 2009 Bill Woodul Race Mechanic Clinic is scheduled for March 12-15 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The clinic is open to all mechanics who wish to become USA Cycling-licensed mechanics. Space will be limited to ensure one-one-one interaction between instructors and students. All participants must register before February 13.
USA Cycling announced today the five athletes that were nominated to represent the United States in the elite men’s category at the 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships on Feb. 1 in Hoorgerheide, Netherlands. Ryan Trebon, Tim Johnson and Jeremy Powers all earned automatic nominations as the top three Americans in the UCI rankings. Brian Matter and Matt Shriver were awarded discretionary selections and will wear the Stars and Stripes. Although Johnson declined his invitation, the U.S. still sends a formidable squad that joins the previously announced roster of women, U23 and junior athletes.
