Along time ago when I was just a child, I wanted a BMX bike so bad! Santa never brought me one and birthdays came and went too. As a family we struggled financially so I had to make do with a second hand, re painted, black racer bicycle.
Please dont think I was ungrateful because that old black bike practically became my best friend and I loved it but I still looked on in awe at all the other BMX bikes. I did however at that point believe that if I had a BMX that I would be able to fly over the house and garden with it! I had E.T. to thank for that fallacy! Much jumping over houses on BMX bikes in videogames wasnt really the same thing.
BMX was pretty much brand new in those days and the streets were full of kids buzzing up and down and making makeshift ramps to fly (fall off the end) off! Christmas mornings reflected just how popular BMX was becoming. In fact it had become an overnight roaring success. Continue Reading »
Bmx Bikes - In The Air Without Wings!
USA Cycling announced today the creation of a new professional gravity mountain bike series designed to recognize the top gravity racers in America. The USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (ProGRT) will consist of five events, including three UCI-sanctioned races, throughout the United States. Together, these races will provide world-class athletes with a consistent stage to showcase their downhill and 4-Cross skills.
USA Cycling will be continuing its series of educational web-based seminars (webinars) on a variety of topics. Organized by the USA Cycling Coaching Program, the webinars are open to all USA Cycling members and the public at-large. Upcoming USA Cycling webinars include: Metabolic Efficiency for Endurance Athletes, Warming Up: Science and Art, Nutrition Periodization for Endurance Athletes, Race Day Nutrition for Optimal Performance and more.
The second event on the 2009 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Ultra-Endurance Calendar, the 12-Hours of Santos, saw Harlan Price and Rita Borelli earn wins in the pro men’s and women’s races. The next event on the 2009 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Ultra-Endurance Calendar will be the marathon race at the Spa City Extreme in Hot Springs, Arkansas on March 7-8.

Levi Leipheimer won the inaugural event on the 2009 USA Cycling Professional Tour Calendar, the AMGEN Tour of California. With only the first of ten events on the USA Cycling Pro Tour complete, Leipheimer and his Astana squad take the early lead in the USA Cycling ProTour rankings. The second event on the USA Cycling Professional Tour, the 1.1-rated U.S. Open of Cycling, is scheduled for May 16 in Providence, Rhode Island.

As a part of its mountain development program, USA Cycling will be hosting a series of European development camps in the spring/summer of 2009. The U23 and junior cross-country camps will be based in Kirchzarten, Germany, each running for a three-week period. All interested parties must complete and return petitions for one of the three camps to USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Development Director Marc Gullickson no later than April 1.

USA Cycling announced today the 20 athletes that will represent the United States at the 2009 Pan American Mountain Bike Championships, March 20-23 in Santiago Chile. Twelve cross country athletes in elite and U23 men’s and women’s divisions will make the trip to Chile, as well as eight gravity athletes who will compete in downhill and 4-cross events. The continental championships provide a significant opportunity to accumulate international ranking points, the primary factor in a nation’s effort to qualify spots for the Olympic Games.
USA Cycling announced today the initial 2009 schedule for the Lance Armstrong Junior Race Series (LAJRS). The series is entering its 17th season and provides racing opportunities for junior and U23-aged men and women across the nation. With the goal of increasing the quantity and quality of road racing opportunities for young USA Cycling-licensed athletes in the United States, the LAJRS also aims to identify and recognize potential world-class cycling talent at the junior level. Race promoters interested in a spot on the 2009 calendar have until Feb. 27 to apply.

Team Columbia-High Road’s Emila Fahlin (SWE) earned the first victory on the 2009 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar. Fahlin won the rain-soaked, 60-minute Tour of California Women’s Criterium in Santa Rosa on Feb. 15 putting herself and her squad at the top of the rankings in the very early going. The second race on the 2009 NRC will be the Redlands Bicycle Classic in Redlands, Calif., March 26-29.

The 2009 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Gravity Calendar began on Feb. 15 with Dan Atherton and Jacqueline Harmony earning wins in the first event, the pro downhill race at the Mob N Mojave on February 15 in Boulder City, Nevada. The pair leads the standings with one of eight events completed. The next event on the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Gravity Calendar is the Fluidride Cup in Port Angeles, Wash., May 1-3.
