Weekly Wrap-Up: Van Garderen 24th in UCI European Standings

USA Cycling National Development Team riders produced some outstanding results over the last week. Taylor Phinney scored fifth-place in Belgium’s ITW Oestingen pour Thomas De Gendt on June 24th while Chloe Forsman finished fifth in the U23 women’s contest at the sixth round of tjhe Engleberg Swiss Racer Bike Cup on Sunday. Additionally, Tejay Van Garderen is the top American in the UCI European Standings, sitting in 24th overall.

Eight men’s road race national titles awarded at masters nationals

The USA Cycling Masters National Championships continued on Monday with day two of road racing in Louisvilleandrsquo;s Cherokee Park where nearly 300 competitors gunned for eight national titles in the older master menandrsquo;s categories as well as the 30-34 andldquo;baby masterandrdquo; division. Racing will continue on Tuesday with the 35-49 menandrsquo;s age divisions competing for the final three road racing national titles of 2009.

Masters Road Nationals get underway in Louisville

The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships got underway on Sunday by awarding 16 national titles in womenandrsquo;s and tandem road racing. Native Louisvillians were the stars of the womenandrsquo;s road racing, grabbing the Stars-and-Stripes in two of nine events before more than 40 tandems took the rolling five-mile course in Cherokee Park.

Masters Road National Championships ready to roll in Louisville

The USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships is headed to Louisville, Kentucky, June 28 andndash; July 4 with nearly 1,000 riders age 30 and above already registered to duke it out for national titles. Louisville welcomes the event for the second year in a row with a full seven days of competition in the road race, individual time trial, tandem time trial and criterium events.

Phinney rides to fifth-place in ITW Oetingen pour Thomas De Gendt

Taylor Phinney scored a fifth-place finish in Belgium’s ITW Oetingen pour Thomas De Gendt on Wednesday. The UCI 1.2 race in Belgium attraced 200 U23 riders and covered 170 kilometers. The USA Cycling National Development Team fielded a squad of six: Phinney, Eric Bennett, Evan Huffman, Christian Parrett, Julian Kyer, and Chris Butler.

Nature Valley Grand Prix to Air on Universal Sports

The Nature Valley Grand Prix, a top race on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar held on June 10 - 14, will air on Universal Sports, the eventandrsquo;s worldwide broadcast partner. With so many compelling storylines the program has been expanded to one full hour. Air times on the Universal Sports network are set for: Saturday, June 27, 2:00 p.m.; Sunday, June 28, 6:00 p.m.; Tuesday, June 30, 11:00 a.m.; Sunday, July 5, 4:00 p.m.; Monday, July 6, 6:00 p.m.

Bennett, Daniels score wins at BMX Continental Series finale

Kyle Bennett and Dominique Daniels rode to the podium’s top step in the elite men’s and women’s contests at the BMX UCI Continental Series finale last Saturday. The tenth and final event in the North American series took place in Rockford, Ill. where Bennett bested USA Cycling’s Power Rankings points leader Donny Robinson and the 16-year-old Daniels beat out Alise Post. With Rockford closing out the 2009 continental series, only the 2009 UCI BMX World Championships remain to factor into USA Cycling’s Power Rankings.

USA Cycling and ACA announce updated Reciprocity Agreement

USA Cycling and the American Cycling Association (ACA) recently executed an updated Reciprocity Agreement for 2009. The agreement aims to provide the best cycling experience for the riders in both organizations by honoring equivalent ability categories within each organization. The agreement, which expires December 31, 2009, outlines in detail the conditions for which each organization will work together for the mutual benefit of the riders.

Weekly Wrap-Up: Van Garderen second in Tour des Pays de Savoie

Among the impressive results produced by American cyclists over the past week, Tejay Van Garderen finished second overall in the Tour des Pays de Savoie in France while the U.S. National Team was third in the team rankings. Also this weekend, Tyler Farrar won the overall at the Delta Tour Zeeland in Holland. USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Camp participants raced in round #5 of the Swiss Racer Bike Cup series in Switzerland with Will Curtis and Jill Behlen posting the top results in the junior men’s and women’s contest.
