Hincapie wins third professional road race championship

One of the most decorated American cyclists of his generation, George Hincapie added a third Stars-and-Stripes jersey to his collection, winning the Greenville Hospital Systems USA Cycling Professional Road Race Championship in front of his hometown crowd. Hincapie jumped on a late race break on the last climb over Paris Mountain and outsprinted Andrew Bajadali and Ken Louder to earn the Stars-and-Stripes following three finishing circuits in downtown Greenville on Sunday.

Zabriskie claims fourth straight professional time trial title

David Zabriskie remains the only athlete to win a USA Cycling professional time trial championship after successfully defending his national title on Saturday andndash; his fourth straight since the eventandrsquo;s inception in 2006. Zabriskie edged runner-up Tom Zirbel by just 44 seconds to maintain his monopoly on the Stars-and-Stripes jersey, completing the 20.7-mile course in 39 minutes, 37.14 seconds. Kelly Benefit Strategies Scott Zwizanski took home the bronze medal, finishing just under two minutes off the pace.

USPRO National Championships kick-off Saturday in Greenville

USA Cycling Pro Time Trial Champion David Zabriskie and two-time U.S. Pro Road Race Champion George Hincapie will be among the star-studded fields for the Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championships, to be held August 29-30, 2009. Other top pro cyclists who have confirmed are Craig Lewis, Christian Vande Velde, Danny Pate, Tom Danielson, Tom Zirbel, John Murphy, Floyd Landis and Brent Bookwalter.

Registration open for 2009 Bill Woodul Race Mechanic Clinic

Registration is now open for the 2009 USA Cycling Bill Woodul Race Mechanic Clinic. Slated for December 10-13, 2009 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., the clinic is open to U.S. residents and USA Cycling license holders who have at least two years of bicycle mechanic experience and wish to become USA Cycling-licensed mechanics.

Maine fun ride to benefit Joshua Kuck Collegiate Scholarship fund

This weekend marks the first annual Joshua’s Ride which will take place just outside of Portland, Maine and raise money for the Joshua Kuck Collegiate Scholarship Fund. The ride begins at Cape Elizabeth High School on Saturday, August 29th, at 8:00 a.m. and features 10, 22, and 77 mile supported road loops in the beautiful New England coastal region.

Registration now open for UCI Men’s Continental Teams

Registration is now open for UCI’s Men’s Continental teams. All teams wishing to register must contact USA Cycling before October 31. All UCI documents and contracts must be submitted to USA Cycling before November 5. New teams for 2010 should immediately contact USA Cycling Technical Director Shawn Farrell.

USA Cycling and Intense BMX announce Junior Development partnership

USA Cycling is excited to partner with Intense BMX to expand its efforts to develop Americaandrsquo;s extensive pipeline of Bicycle Motocross (BMX) athletes. With a focus on the future, the national governing body has plans to increase its development initiatives, including the enhanced USA Cycling Junior Development Program (JDP) sponsored by Intense BMX.

DEVELOPMENT WRAP: Junior and U23 riders score European stage wins

It was quite a successful week for riders in USA Cycling’s Development Programs. David Kessler grabbed a stage win in the West Vlaanderen Cycling Tour while Jacob Rathe won the first of four stages in the Regio Tour. National Development Team rider Daniel Holloway also grabbed a stage win in Europe last week, claiming the opening stage of the Vuelta Palencia in Spain.

Tour of Utah and Marion Classic mark busy NRC weekend

Francisco Mancebo took the overall victory at the Tour of Utah while Luis Amaran and Tina Pic brought home victories for their Colavita-Sutter Home-Cooking Light squads at the Marion Classic in Indiana over the weekend. With only two USA Cycling National Racing Calendar events remaining Tom Zirbel holds the top spot on the men’s side, while Alison Powers has clinched the 2009 title on the women’s side. The penultimate event on the USA Cycling National Racing calendar will be the 26th annual Chris Thater Memorial in Binghamton, N.Y. on Aug. 30.

Robinson second in round two of Supercross World Cup

The second of four UCI BMX Supercross World Cup events took place in Peitermaritzburg, South Africa over the weekend. Reigning elite world champion Donny Robinson finished second in the men’s contest to 2009 junior world champ Sam Willoughby. Nic Long also represented the U.S. in the men’s final, riding to a sixth-place finish. In the women’s contest, Alise Post made it to the main where she scored a seventh-place result for the American contingent.
