Mike Plant elected to 15-member UCI Management Committee

Mike Plant was elected to the 15-member UCI Management Committee by the UCI Congress in Lugano, Switzerland during the UCI Road World Championships in September. A previous member of the UCI Management Committee from 1997 to 2004, Plant joins the president of the Pan American Cycling Confederation, Cuban Jose Pelaez, for another four-year term representing the American contingent to cycling’s international governing body.

USA Cycling Pro Cross Country Tour ramps up for second season

USA Cycling announced today the return of the nationandrsquo;s professional cross country mountain bike series designed to amplify athletesandrsquo; opportunities, increase exposure for mountain biking domestically and to maximize U.S. start spots on the sportandrsquo;s highest stages. The USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour (Pro XCT) presented by US Cup will consist of six UCI-sanctioned events throughout the United States, providing world-class athletes with a consistent stage on which to accumulate UCI ranking points and top prize purses.

DEVELOPMENT WRAP-UP: Olds grabs silver in World Cup points race

USA Cycling fielded riders for two track events last week. Six riders represented the U.S. National Team in round two of the UCI Track World Cup in Melbourne, AUS, Nov. 19-21. Shelley Olds produced the top result for the squad with a silver medal effort in the women’s points race. Additionally, Iggy Silva and Ian Moir represented the U.S. with a third-place effort in the Madison in a local Gent, Belgium race - the Jeugdmeeting.

USA Cycling mourns long-time member DeLanghe

Long-time official and race promoter Roger R. DeLanghe, 82, of Sterling, Ill., died Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Roger and his uncle, Rene De Langhe, co-founded the Quad City Bicycle Races in 1964 in East Moline. In recent years the races moved to Rock Island and are considered classics and some of the largest races of their kind in the U.S. In 2010 the races will be celebrating 46 years.

Development Foundation auctions off Road Bike signed by Dave Z

The USA Cycling Development Foundation is holding an Ebay auction for a Felt AR2 Road Bike ridden and signed by Dave Zabriskie at the second annual Marin Classic last month. Zabriskie autographed the bike in three places to help the Development Foundation raise funds for USA Cycling’s athlete development intitiatives. Net proceeds from the auction will benefit our young American cyclists in the National Development Team programs, where Dave Z got his start.

NRC and Mountain Bike Promoters Summits concluded last weekend

The second annual National Racing Calendar (NRC) and Mountain Bike Promoters Summits were conducted last weekend, Nov. 13-15, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs where a total of 46 individuals gathered to exchange ideas and share best practices. The NRC gathering brought together 14 people to share their thoughts regarding the nation’s premier Pro-Am road racing calendar while the mountain bike summit saw 32 industry stakeholders converge to discuss the advancement of mountain bike racing in the U.S.

DEVELOPMENT WRAP: U.S. ready for round two of Track World Cup

American riders continued a busy track season last week. Six riders made their way to the Home Depot Center Velodrome in Carson, Calif. to prepare for round two of the UCI Track World Cup, and USA Cycling National Development Team graduate Guy East rode in Great Britain’s Revolution on November 14, finishing sixth overall with his Vitesse squad.

Driscoll, Bruno-Roy lead Cyclo-cross standings after 30 events

Two events on the 2009/2010 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Racing Calendar were held last weekend: Rounds one and two of the USGP of Cyclo-cross Mercer Cup, Nov. 14 and 15 in West Windsor, N.J. With 30 of the 42 events in the series now complete, James Driscoll and Maureen Bruno-Roy are leading the men’s and women’s standings with 364 and 225 points respectively.

2009 Club of the Year applications due Dec. 4

It’s that time of the year again - time for USA Cycling clubs to apply for the annual andquot;Club of the Yearandquot; awards. USA Cycling will award three andquot;Overall Club of the Yearandquot; designations and seven special awards on December 18, 2009. USA Cycling’s andquot;Club of the Yearandquot; awards are designed to recognize USA Cycling clubs that have made exceptional efforts to develop programs and promote all aspects of competitive cycling. Applications must be postmarked by December 4.

Cyclo-cross Nationals are one month away - Register online now

The USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships are only a month away. If you haven’t done so already, there is still time to register online. Online registration will be available at Sports Base Online until 11:59 EDT on December 4, but please note that effective November 19, registrants will incur an additional late online registration fee. Racers are encouraged to avoid that increase by registering online now.
